Ozark Officially Renewed For Season 2

Variety – “Ozark” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix, Variety has learned.

Like the first, the second season will consist of 10 episodes. The series follows financial planner Marty (Jason Bateman) and his wife Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney). Without warning, Marty relocates the family from the suburbs of Chicago to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks after a money laundering scheme puts him in the crosshairs of a Mexican drug lord.

Good news in TV land for your boy. Ozark has officially been renewed for Season 2. I feel like this show has gone under-the-radar and has not gotten the credit it deserves. It came out last month to not a lot of publicity. Ozark tells the story of how Marty forces his family to move to the Ozark Mountains after a deal with the cartel goes awry.

The first thing you’re thinking is “this sounds like Breaking Bad.” Yes, it does. My theory is it’s Breaking Bad mixed with Season 1 of Bloodline. That being said, is there anything wrong with being compared to Breaking Bad? Breaking Bad is one of the best shows of all-time so being in the same sentence is an honor. Ozark is like a JV Breaking Bad and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. No need to be a hardo and say “It’s a breaking bad rip off!” No it’s not and you’d know that if you watched.

You also have the similarity of Bryan Cranston and Jason Bateman making the switch to dramas. Bryan Cranston was Hal from Malcolm In The Middle and Jason Bateman was Michael Bluth from Arrested Development (Goatish comedy). Bateman is no Walter White, but he actually did a really solid job. Bateman has this snarky side to him as well in the show. The “I’m going to do what I want because I don’t give a shit” type of attitude. Also really ironic that he’s now laundering money but didn’t know there was money in the banana stand.

I liked Ozark. It kept me entertained from start to finish. I love crime / thrilling shows that take weird twists and turns. I can’t say I predicted a lot of the things that happened. If were being honest, wasn’t the biggest fan of the final minutes of the finale, but that’s only because they wanted to set up a Season 2. If you’re looking for a show on the Flix, definitely give Ozark a watch.

I’m adding this just cause I can’t write about Jason Bateman and not mention Arrested Development. There’s always money in the banana stand.
