Happy 20th Anniversary, Titanic

Titanic / 20th Century Fox

December 19, 1997. The debut of greatness.

Take a bow, Titanic. Happy 20th anniversary to one of my favorite movies of all-time. Yes, Titanic is not only one of my favorite movies of all-time, but it’s also one of the most polarizing movies of all-time. You either love Titanic or you hate Titanic. I’ve never met someone who was in the middle. Frankly, I don’t understand why anyone would hate this masterpiece. I will go to BATTLE defending Titanic.

For starters, if you want to harp on Titanic for its length, I don’t hate the argument. It’s a long movie and there’s no denying it. 195 minutes! On TV, it’s usually 4 and a half hours (lol). You really need to invest a lot of time in this movie, which I seem to do every time it is on. However, Titanic is a mix of a lot of genres. It’s a disaster / epic / action / romance all rolled up into one.  A Long Island Iced Tea of genres It’s not just a “cheesy” love story as some of the haters call it. Love, greed, deception, and a huge iceberg make an average film turn into an epic.

Titanic has withstood the test of time. It will forever be a classic. If you’re an OG fan like myself, then you own the 2 tape VHS pack. I can only beat a dead horse so many times. I’ve written about the greatness of Titanic before, which you should read, but instead of talking about Leo, Kate, and Billy Zane, I’m going to leave you with Celine instead. See you in 20 more years, Titanic.
